Michel Rouen vest

Windproof softshell vests with five pockets and a water-resistant face, and lighter quarter zip vests in the knit the pullovers are cut from.

Anyone who has tried to swing in a jacket knows the argument for this shelf: the core stays warm, the shoulders stay out of it, and nothing gathers at the elbow at the top of the backswing. The softshell is the serious one. The face sheds a shower and holds off the wind that makes a dry forty degrees feel like something worse, and the five pockets are the reason it gets worn off the course as much as on it: two at the hand, two on the chest and one inside. Water-resistant is the honest word for what it does: it will see you through the ten minutes before you reach the cart, and it is not a rain shell and does not pretend to be. The quarter zip vests are the other case entirely, thin enough to live in a bag all season and go on over a polo when the wind gets up on an exposed nine.

Prices are the figures from our last update, and we refresh them on a schedule, which is the least glamorous part of Michel Rouen standards, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.

Questions about Michel Rouen vests

Why a vest instead of a jacket on a course, how many pockets the softshell has, and what water-resistant does and does not mean here.

Is a Michel Rouen vest warm enough for you on its own?

Over a long sleeve polo on a dry day with wind in it, yes, and that is exactly the combination it is designed around. Over a short sleeve in genuine cold it is not, because your arms are bare. The vest holds heat over the core and makes no claim about the rest of you.

Where does your phone go in a Michel Rouen softshell vest?

The inside pocket. It is the only one of the five that does not swing when you take a club back, and it is the reason the inside pocket is there at all rather than being a detail somebody added for symmetry.

Do you take the same size in a Michel Rouen vest as in the polos?

The same letters, S to 3XL, and you should take the same one. A vest sized up flaps at the armhole on a swing, and an armhole that flaps is the one thing that makes a vest worse than no vest.
