These exist for the eight o'clock round in January when the grass is wet, the wind is up and the course is empty. The fleece lining runs through the seat and the thigh rather than the whole leg, which is deliberate: those are the places a walking round makes you cold, and lining the calf as well would add weight where you do not need it. The face is water-resistant, so an hour of heavy dew does not soak through to the lining, and a shower on the way back to the car does not either.

What they are not is a waterproof trouser. Once the face is properly wet through, a fleece lining takes a long time to dry, and there is no version of this fabric that does otherwise. A pair that has taken a real downpour comes off at the car and dries overnight.
