Dry fit is a description of a fibre rather than a treatment sprayed on afterwards, and that is the reason it does not wash out. Polyester does not absorb water into the fibre the way cotton does. It moves it along the surface and out to where air can take it, so a shirt that is soaked at the third is damp at the ninth and dry in the car. The spandex is the second half of the answer and it is a smaller percentage doing a specific job: it is what brings the shoulder back to shape after four hours of swinging, and it is why the placket does not go wavy after a season. Under the labelling rules a fibre below five percent has to be named where it has a definite function, and stretch is the textbook case, so the spandex appears on the label even at three percent. What none of this does is keep you cool in still air at ninety degrees. It keeps you dry, which is a different and more achievable thing.
